Free resources for video conversion

Even back in the 1990s when DVDs had finally taken hold as the new 'big thing' in movie viewing, it still took many years for people and programmers to really grasp this technology, use it extensively, and develop software that allowed for further manipulation of the DVD. Now we are again in a similar situation, this time with 'Blu-ray', the DVDs high definition big brother. As movie viewing technologies progress and expand, then so do the programs and programmers abilities to manipulate, edit, and convert these formats. There are some great free resources available for some truly beautiful conversions, especially at high definition, but like many things in life, there’s good and bad. Some of the most powerful video conversion programs and libraries are ‘CLI’ applications, which for many can be a problem, especially if you weren’t around in the 'DOS' days. The thought of opening a 'Command Prompt' window and typing in paths and options doesn't appeal to most people, even those knowledgeable in these areas. This is where my programs come in, gathering these well loved and respected video libraries together in a single central user interface, allowing all the power, but easy on the eyes, logical, user friendly, and simple to use allowing you to get a particular job done with the minimal of set up time.
